Paris 03 July 2020
France’s Prime Minister Edouard Philippe resigned from government, the Elysee Palace announced in a statement on Friday.
The French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the prime minister’s resignation.
The statement also said that the current cabinet would remain in charge of governmental affairs until a new team was put in place.
No reason was given in the statement. Macron while speaking to some newspapers, recently has vowed to chart a new course for the last two years of his term as the President.
Philippe’s popularity had been rising in the recent weeks in contrast to that of Macron.
The reshuffle was planned as Macron’s government faced obstacles and criticisms during the virus crisis.
